20 killed in coaching centre fire tragedy in Surat

At least 20 persons mostly students killed and many others injured in a major fire breakout at a commercial complex in Sarthana area of Surat in Gujarat. According to sources, fire broke out on the second floor of Takshshila apartment, where about 50 students attending private tuition classes. About 17 teams of firefighters rushed to the spot to control the fire and rescue works.

Injured people mostly students have been admitted to the hospitals. Meanwhile, State government has ordered the inquiry of the incident. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced Rs. 4 lakh immediate cash assistance to the families of victims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed extreme anguish at the fire tragedy in Surat. In a tweet, he said his thoughts are with the bereaved families and hoped that the injured recover quickly. Mr Modi said, he has asked the Gujarat government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
