The State government will present a “Golden Bonam” weighing 3.8 kg to Goddess Ujjaini Mahankali to mark the Bonalu festival, Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy today said.

Addressing mediapersons along with Ministers Padma Rao Goud, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Indrakaran said better arrangements were being made for the Bonalu festival. To mark the Ashadham month, the Bonalu will be conducted in a peaceful manner with all facilities, he said. He also said it was decided to use 250 kg of silver to quote the main temple as part of the festival and Rs 15 crore was sanctioned for the purpose.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao accorded State festival status to Bonalu for its history and being acknowledged by the country. Indrakaran also appreciated Srinivas Yadav for coming forward to present a diamond-studded nose stud,  Bottu and a golden sword to the presiding deity on the occasion. LB Nagar Handloom Weavers association will present a silk Saree to the goddess, he said.

Srinivas Yadav said Ghatam procession will be taken out on July 15 and Bonalu presentation will be held on July 29. Arrangements have also been made for conducting another important program of Bhavishya Vani (Oracle) on June 30 at 9.30 am, he said. The Goddess will be carried atop an Elephant for a procession from the temple to Mettuguda at 10.30 am, he said.

As many as 100 special RTC buses will be pressed into service from 19 places in the city, he said, adding some 150 troupes of artistes will present cultural programs to make the festivities grand. All the departments concerned were asked to make all arrangements for basic amenities, better roads, power and water supply, sanitation, traffic regulation, barricading, parking, health camps and others.

Excise Minister Padma Rao Goud said wine shops will be closed for two days on July 29 and 30 to mark the Bonalu festivities in the twin cities. Mayor Rammohan appealed to small vendors on the roads to shift to other places being shown and people should cooperate while removing encroachments on foot paths.
