Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa made some sensational revelations regarding air force pilots. Speaking at an event on Friday in Bengaluru, the air chief said “The Indian Air Force is facing a peculiar challenge in keeping its pilots flight ready at all times. And the culprit is social media. Long hours spent on social media is making air force pilots sleep deprived. In 2013, this even resulted in a fatal air crash in Rajasthan.”
The air chief was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 57th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bengaluru. “The problem that is coming now because of social media is sleep deprivation. Most of the people are active on social media very late in the night. The times have changed and new methods need to be thought of to know if a pilot has taken sufficient sleep before entering a cockpit,” he said. “We had an unfortunate fatal air crash in Uttarlai (near Barmer in Rajasthan) in 2013 that resulted because of continuous sleep deprivation for a number of days,” Dhanoa said.
