Ajit Doval continues to be National Security Adviser

Government of India (GoI) on Monday appointed Ajit Doval as the National Security Adviser (NSA) for a second consecutive term for next five years and elevated to the rank of Union Cabinet Minister. According to the Personnel Ministry order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment for a five-year period with effect from May 31, 2019.

Ajit Doval- the man in charge of the national security establishment that includes all anti-terror and intelligence outfits, was also praised for his role during the 73-day stand-off between India and China at Doklam. Doval retired in January 2005 as the chief of Intelligence Bureau. Doval oversaw the Balakot air strike after the February 14, attack in Pulwama and the 2016 surgical strikes after the Uri strike.

In India’s three-tier internal security structure, the National Security Council is headed by the Prime Minister. There is also a strategic policy group and a National Security Advisory Board. Mr Doval works as the secretary of the National Security Council.
