At least 14 people including children were killed and dozens more were injured in United States, when powerful tornadoes swept through eastern Alabama, a local official said. Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said several people have been hospitalised, some with very serious injuries, while the search is still continuing for more who are missing.
The Sheriff described the damage caused by the storm as catastrophic. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise further as search efforts continued in the small community of town Beauregard and surrounding areas. The severe storms destroyed mobile homes, snapped trees and left a trial of destruction and weather warnings extending into Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
