Bollywood actor and filmmaker Arbaaz Khan reportedly confessed to betting on IPL matches, on Saturday, 2 June. The police officials of the Thane anti-extortion cell involved in the investigations confirmed the news.
On Friday, 1 June, the city police had issued summons to the 50-year-old actor-producer to record his statement in connection with the betting racket.
In a letter sent to Arbaaz, the police had asked him to join the probe in the wake of the arrest of an alleged bookie who was placing bets on the recently-concluded Indian Premier League IIPL), said by a police official.
Arbaaz reached the office of the Thane Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell (ACE) to record his statement, said DCP (crime) Abhishek Trimukhe.
In betting Arbaaz lost Rs 2.80 crore to Jalan (who was arrested on Tuesday) and was not paying the amount, following which the bookie had threatened the actor, the official had said, citing the interrogation of the arrested accused.
