In an interesting development, a team of international astronomers found a metallic exoplanet, which is 339 light-years away from Earth and having a density that is similar to Mercury.
The astronomers named the exoplanet as K2-229b. It is 20% larger than Earth, However, it is 2.6 times more massive. Interestingly, K2-229b has a dayside temperature of over 2,000°C.
The team of international astronomers made the discovery by using NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope and observing Doppler shifts in the spectrum of its host star.
