Biopic on NTR launched, Balayya to enact his father’s role

The members of the Telugu film industry gathered as one for the launch of a biopic on the legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao.

The impressive ceremony brought together the Who’s Who of the Telugu film industry today. India’s Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu gave the mahurat clap for the movie. Veteran Telugu actor and NTR’s son Nandamuri Balakrishna is essaying the role of his father.

The grand event was held at Ramakrishna Studios in Hyderabad.

During the film launch event, Balakrishna, fondly called as Balayya, said it was his good karma in the past life that gave him the opportunity to play his father in a biopic.

“We are making this film to ensure that the present and coming generations know about NTR and his great contributions to the film industry and to society,” said Balayya.

He was dressed up as the Karava prince Duryodhana for the muhurtham shot.

The biopic is being directed by Teja. He and other members of the crew erected a court scene from the ‘Daana Veera Soora Karna’, which was a blockbuster when it was released in the past. In the original film, NTR essayed the roles of Karna, Lord Krishna and Duryodhana.

Explaining the choice of this day for the launch of the biopic, Balakrishna said it was on March 17 in 1951 that ‘Patala Bhairavi’ and becane a box office hit. He then said the film ‘Lava Kusa’ was also released on this day in 1963.

He said he father’s first colour movie ‘Desoddharakulu’ (1973) was also released on the same date.

On this day in 1982 NTR had founded the Telugu Desam Party, he said.

Balakrishna is also a TDP legislator.

Meanwhile, director Teja said the regular shooting of the movie is set to begin on March 30 and the movie will be released in Telugu and Hindi during Dussehra.

The biopic is being produced by Balayya, Sai Korrapati and Vishnu Vardhan Induri.
