When Santosh Ivnati, the constable allegedly scolded Mr Devda’s nephew and asked him why he had come to the police station, the nephew promptly informed the MLA. The MLA was then seen on CCTV footage, slapping Santosh twice and allegedly abusing him, while he had his hands folded behind his back.
The constable Santosh, however, says that an unknown person had fist entered the station and snatched the bottle. When he proceeded to leave, Santosh tried to stop the person, after which Mr Devda’s son visited the police station. This is when the MLA entered the station and proceeded to assault him.
Anshuman Singh, Superintendent of Police said.”An inquiry over the incident was registered and an investigation is on”. He added that the incident occurred at night after 12.
The incident occurred at Uday Nagar police station in Dewas district which is around 150 km away from Bhopal.
A case was registered under Section 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging his duty) & 332 (assaulting public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
