Book on GIs in Telangana launched

Telangana New Municipal Act likely to be passed in Special Assembly session

Today Minister KTR  along with Jayesh Ranjan  and Shailaja Rama Iyer , MD TSHDC and CII Telangana team launched the e-book on GIs of Telangana .

 A Geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given place. In addition, the qualities, characteristics or reputation of the product should be essentially due to the place of origin.

 The main objective of the  book is to link the Products, Places and People of Telangana to the World and showcase the traditional art and crafts and food stuff which the state possesses over the years. The Book also in a way will promote GI tourism to help people go to these places of origin of the products to see and witness the craftsmanship of such a rich history and tradition.

 Telangana has 15  registered GI’s but there is a huge potential to identify One District one Product and  explore for the possibility of GI registrations for the products.

 The book with educate and enlighten people from all walks of life to know about the product and the place and appreciate the uniqueness of one’s culture and tradition.

 With the call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat, it’s time we need to brand and market our own products first  in Local and then go global .

 The book captures all the products with their human skill, uniqueness and specification of the products to give a consumer a birds eye view of the art and the making of the craft.
