At least 40 devotees died and 22 others were injured after a state-owned Road Transport Corporation bus fell off the Ghat road near Kondagattu in Jagityal district of Telangana on Tuesday noon. The incident happened when the bus was returning from Kondagattu to Jagitial skidded off the ghat road near Shanivarapet village and fell into the valley resulting in the accident. Over 62 passengers were travelling in the bus. Among the deceased, 20 of them were women while 7 were kids. Of the injured, 17 are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Karimnagar and Jagityal while eight critically injured were rushed to Hyderabad.
The incident happened at around 11.45 am. District collector Sarath said while many passengers died on the spot, others succumbed to their injuries in hospitals. The health department got some private doctors to the spot to render first aid to the injured. Kondagattu Hanuman temple is a famous pilgrim center and draws a huge crowd on Tuesday and Saturday. All the passengers were pilgrims returning from a visit to the temple. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock at the accident and instructed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
