The day (today) he turned 68, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sat for his day-long fast at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada in protest against the injustice being meted out to the state by the BJP-backed central government.
Chandrababu launched the ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ hunger strike that began at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 7 p.m.
State ministers Kala Venkat Rao, D. Umamaheswara Rao, Nara Lokesh, Kollu Ravindra, MPs and state legislators and leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) joined him in the fast.
Before sitting for his fast, Chandrababu garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and N.T. Rama Rao.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today tweeted birthday wishes for a long and healthy life to Chandrababu. In the tweet, Modi said, “Birthday wishes to Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Garu. I pray for his long and healthy life. ”
Modi’s wished Chandrababu at a time when the Centre and the Chief Minister are at loggerheads over the Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra.
