Slamming the BJP-backed central government for not providing special status to Andhra Pradesh as promised, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) union ministers Ashok Gajapathi Raju and YS Chowdary to resign from the Union Cabinet today.

Chandrababu said his party will, however, remain in the NDA alliance for now and will build up more pressure on the central government for the special status for his state.

This comes soon after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the central government cannot provide the special status to AP.

Speaking on the issue of the special status, Arun Jaitley claimed sentiments cannot decide the quantum of funds to be released to AP.

Jaitely then asserted that the central government never denied AP’s demands. He then added that AP will be provided with the monetary benefits that are equivalent to the special status in the form of a ‘special package’.
