Congress wins Meghalaya Assembly Seat And Emerger As Largest Party With 21 Seats

Today the Congress won the Ampati assembly poll in Meghalaya today.

Located in the South West Garo Hills region of Meghalaya, Ampati is one of the 60 Assembly seats in Meghalaya. With the Ampati win, the Congress has 21 members in the 60-member assembly-making it the single largest party in the assembly-while nearest rival the National People’s Party (NPP) has 20 members. Ampati is part of the Tura Parliamentary/Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency was created by the 2008 Delimitation.

Congress candidate Miani D Shira beat her nearest rival C G Momin (NPP), in the assembly by-poll in Ampati.

Congress had won the seat in both the 2013 & 2018 Meghalaya Assembly elections.

Voting for the seat took place on May 28, 2018, and the voting percentage in Ampati by-poll was 90.42%, Election Commission officials said.
