Cyclone Gaja may further intensify into severe cyclonic storm

Cyclone Gaja, which is expected to make landfall in Tamil Nadu between Cuddalore and Pamban on November 15, lay centered about 750 km east of Chennai over the Bay of Bengal, as of early Tuesday morning, according to India Meteorological Department. The cyclonic storm is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall to north Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and is expected to bring light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many locations in the area on Wednesday, reports said.

 The storm system is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and will continue to maintain its intensity during the subsequent 24 hours, as per IMD’s latest bulletin.Fishermen have been warned to not venture into central parts of south and central Bay of Bengal as well the southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal on November 13 to 15.

The Met department has also advised for a total suspension of fishing operations along and off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast for today, as well as tomorrow.
