The death toll has risen to 23 after country’s deadliest tornado in nearly six years struck a rural Alabama community in the US. According to the local sheriff, rescue crews searched for victims as dozens were missing in Lee County. The death toll is expected to rise as emergency crews dig through rubble.
Dozens are hurt and nearly 2,000 homes in the affected area are without power following the tornado. A state of emergency is in operation. Alabama Governor has warned that there could be more extreme weather to come.
