In an interesting development, Delhi Police arrested a young man aged 19 and identified as Adnan Khurram, who was a medical aspirant, for impersonating as an AIIMS doctor for the past five months.
Adnan Khurram is said to have used a fake identity and made friends across departments and also among medical students.
He even took part in several events meant for doctors including strikes and marathon, according to the AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association.
When Delhi Police arrested him, they were in for a surprise when they learnt of his ‘knowledge’ of medicines, the names of doctors and department heads at AIIMS.
The accused also had accessed a diary issued to the doctors.
Police said they are confused as to why Khurram imersonated as a doctor. One reason he gave for his crime was that he needed to help an ailing family member get preferential treatment.
Police said Khurram was charged under sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code at Hauz Khas Police Station.
Khurram is a native of Bihar.
