Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf is a self-confessed fan of MS Dhoni. The Ranchi cricketer had mesmerised Musharraf not just with his big-hitting skills but also with his much-talked-about long hair during the nascent stages of his career. Dhoni won a lot of hearts in Pakistan on his maiden tour across the border in 2006.
The wicketkeeper-batsman played a couple of match-winning knocks during India’s 4-1 win in the ODI series and made himself an indispensable member of the Indian side. Sourav Ganguly, who had led the team during the 2006 Pakistan tour, has recalled Musharraf’s admiration for Dhoni.
Ganguly said: “I still remember Pervez Musharraf asking me from where did you get him?” ‘I told him he was walking near the Wagah border and we pulled him in’,” Ganguly said in a lighter note. Asked about his take on the 2019 World Cup lineup, Ganguly said: “I am not a selector but I expect 85-90 per cent of the current team will play in the World Cup.”
