Election Commission bans exit poll results till 7 December evening

Exit poll results for five States – Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana assembly elections cannot be made public before 7 December evening, the Election Commission said. Polling would be held in two phases in Chhattisgarh and in a single phase in the other States. The first phase of polls in Chhattisgarh will take place on 12 November.

All the results will be out on December 11. A poll panel order citing election law said “conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicising by means of the print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner, whatsoever the result of any exit poll in connection with the current elections to the legislative assemblies of five States shall be prohibited” between 7am of 12 November to 5.30pm of 7 December.
