Eoin Morgan-led England defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Thursday. Australia have set a modest victory target of 224 runs for England. Joe Root and Eoin Morgan finished the chase as they reached the target with 8 wickets in hand in just 32.1 overs.
Jonny Bairstow was trapped by Mitchell Starc and England also lost a review. Jason Roy was dismissed controversially after a caught behind decision went against him. Coming out to chase 224, England openers Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler gave a solid start. Roy scored his half century. The two players crossed the 100-run mark.
Earlier, Australia were all out for 223 in 49 overs. Steve Smith top scored 85. For England, Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes took three wickets each and Jofra Archer two and Mark Wood one. England will play New Zealand in the final on Sunday.
