External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Nepal for wide-ranging bilateral talks

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Kathmandu today on a two-day visit to Nepal. He was received at the airport by Foreign Secretary of Nepal, Shanker Das Bairagi, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri and Nepal’s Ambassador to India Neelambar Acharya. In his first engagement, Dr. Jaishankar will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Later in the day, External Affairs Minister will co-chair the 5th Meeting of India-Nepal Joint Commission with his Nepalese counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The Commission will review overall state of bilateral relations and various areas of cooperation.

The main focus will be on economic partnership, trade and transit, connectivity, power, water resources and inundation. Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs will also host a dinner in honour of Dr. Jaishankar.
