External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be on a two-day visit to Maldives beginning today. During this visit, the minister will call on President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim and meet with the Maldives minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Shahid. She is also scheduled to hold a joint Ministerial Meeting to discuss cooperation on a wide variety of issues.
Maldives foreign ministry said, both governments will discuss ongoing and future collaboration arrangements, including the implementation of the agreed outcomes of the state visit to India by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
It said that discussions will focus on development cooperation, cooperation in the field of health, and enhancing people-to-people contact. Relations between the two neighbours have vastly improved after taking over of the new government in Maldives under President Solih.
