India’s shuttlers Subhankar Dey and P.V. Sindhu advanced to the second round of BWF French Open Super 750 tournament in Paris yesterday. Subhankar beat Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto 15-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the men’s singles first round. P V Sindhu defeated Canada’s Michelli Li 21-15, 21-13 in the women’s singles first round. In the Men’s singles category Sameer Verma, Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth lost in the first round.

Sameer Verma lost to Nishimoto K of Japan 2-0, P Kashyap was defeated by N G Ka L A of Hong Kong 2-0 while K Srikanth lost to Taipae’s Chou T 2-1. Saina Nehwal, who had finished runner-up at the 2012 edition, will meet Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi in the opening round later tonight. In mixed doubles, the duo of Satwiksairaj Ranikireddi and Ashwini Punnappa was humbled by South Korean pair of Seung Jae Seo and Yu Jang Chae 2-0.

While P J Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy lost to England’s duo of Adcock Chris and Adcock Gabrielle 2-0. In women’s doubles, the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy is in the fray. The men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and the duo of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy will also participate in the tournament today.
