Hyd police book case against journo for Facebook cartoon on Ram devotees

The Hyderabad police had registered a case against a woman journalist in the city for drawing a cartoon on her Facebook page and insulting the devotees of Lord Rama and hurting the sentiments of the Lord’s devotees.

Hyd police book case against journo for Facebook cartoon on Ram devotees, navyamediaA complaint was filed against the journalist, identified as Swathi Vadlamudi, by Hindu Sanghatan president and advocate Kashimshetty Karuna Sagar and the Saidabad police registered the case.

Swathi Vadlamudi is a journalist working with an English daily in Hyderabad under Section 295 (a) of the Indian Penal Code, i.e. Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Swathi generally draws cartoons in the social media as a hobby. On April 10, she drew a cartoon and posted it on her Facebook page expressing her anguish over the Kathua and Unnao rape incidents.

In the cartoon, Sita is seen telling Lord Rama: “I am glad, I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakths.” The cartoon went viral across platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) president Allam Narayana and secretary Kranthi Kiran condemned the registering of the case and demanded that the case is withdrawn immediately.
