After the formation of the Telangana state in June 2014, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi participated for the first time in an election rally on Friday in poll-bound Telangana at Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi took on the K Chandrasekhar Rao government at the rally, alleging that it has done nothing for farmers or youth over the last four years.
“The Chief Minister has cared only for himself and his own people, leaving the child (Telangana) to suffer. People who aren’t true to their word aren’t worth trusting,” she said. Addressing a public meeting of thousands, Ms Gandhi alleged that Telangana’s condition has deteriorated dramatically in recent years.
Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi participated in the public meeting. The leaders of the of Prajakutami ( grand alliance ) including Telegu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) and CPI also shared the dais with them at the rally.
The Congress postponed the release of its election manifesto which was expected to be released during the rally. Rahul will campaign next week in other constituencies. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu may share the stage with Rahul and campaign for his party.
