A life-size portrait of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was unveiled by the President in Parliament House on Tuesday morning. Renowned artist Krishn Kanhai of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh had prepared the portrait of Vajpayee, who served as Prime Minister three times between 1996 and 2004.
President Ram Nath Kovind unveiled the portrait in the Central Hall of Parliament House in the presence of ministers, and leaders of various parties. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was conferred Bharat Ratna in 2015. He passed away in August last year at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness.
The decision to install the portrait of the Bharat Ratna was taken in December during the meeting of Parliament’s Portrait Committee chaired by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
