Mahatma Gandhi’s messages light up Burj Khalifa in Dubai

On Gandhi Jayanti, Dubai had the tallest tribute. Mahatma Gandhi’s images and popular quotes beamed on Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper, on Tuesday, marking the commencement of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of India’s Father of the Nation. The special LED show, jointly organised by the Indian Embassy, Abu Dhabi, Indian Consulate in Dubai and Emaar Properties. The building was lit spectacularly using special LED screenings in the colours of the tricolour, with an image of Mahatma Gandhi for several minutes.

To complete the moment, a beautiful instrumental version of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, “Vaishnav Jana To”, played in the background. “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” “Non-violence is the virtue of the strong,” “Poverty is the worst form of violence,” were some of the thought-provoking messages that flashed during the special screening for about 20 minutes. Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 is also celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
