Musical tribute paid to legendary singer Manna Dey

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre of the Indian High Commission observed the birth centenary of legendary singer Manna Dey in Dhaka on Friday. A musical tribute was paid to Manna Dey on the occasion. Dr. Amitabha Chanda along with Mridula Samadder and Samiul Islam Poluck enthralled the audience with the songs and narration from the biography of Manna Dey. Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Bishwadip Dey felicitated the artists after the event.

Manna Dey was born in Kolkata in 1919. His film career as the singer started in 1942 with the movie Tamanna. In his long musical career spanning over more than 5 decades, Manna Dey is credited with some of the most popular songs in films like Do Bigha Zamin, Awara, Mera Nam Joker, Bobby and Sholay among many others. In 2005 he was awarded the Padmabhushan. He received Dadasahab Phalke award in 2007. He passed away in 2013.
