HYDERABAD: On Friday, Rs 100 crore Osmania University received financial aid under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a centrally sponsored scheme of the ministry of the human resource development in phase-2.
“An additional amount of Rs seven crore was also sanctioned for the University Grants Commission, Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC),” according to a press release issued by the university. The Osmania University is the only varsity in Telangana to qualify for this scheme by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a score of a 3.52-grade point. “The scheme is to be completed by March 2020. While 60 percent of the amount will be borne by the centre, the state has to bear 40 percent of the finances,” reads the press release.
A media release by the university on Friday also said that it had earmarked `20 crore for construction of a hostel for girls, washrooms for boys and girls and common rooms in six campus colleges.
Further, Rs70 crore is proposed to be utilised for a renovation of existing facilities and all heritage buildings, campus beautification, amenities, water supply and solar energy.
Hostels would be modernized and classrooms would be technology-enabled. Rs 10 crore to be spent for procurement of new equipment and enhancement of facilities. Separate gymnasiums for girls and boys, running tracks, purchase of high-performance computing systems, books and journals and purchase of new laboratory equipment.
