Indian star shuttler P V Sindhu’s hopes of breaking a seven-month title drought came crashing down as the Indian lost in straight games to Akane Yamaguchi in the finals of Indonesia Open BWF Tour Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta yesterday. She lost to the Japanese 15-21 16-21 in a lop-sided summit clash that lasted 51 minutes.
The Olympic silver medallist had come into the contest with a favourable 10-4 head-to-head record against the Japanese. Nevertheless, it was season’s best performance for the world number five Indian, who had reached the semifinals at Singapore and India Open earlier.
