Prime Minister and Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi will address public rallies at Mahabubnagar in Telangana and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh today. This will be Mr Modi’s first election meeting in Telangana for the Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister’s visit gains much political significance especially when two leaders from Mahabubanagar Lok Sabha Constituency from different parties recently joined the BJP.
The contest for Lok Sabha elections in Telangana will be mainly between the Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS), Congress and the BJP. The TRS has support of the MIM except in one constituency in which the Majlis is in contest. The Congress also has informal support of the Telangana Jana Samiti and others mainly where the parties are not in the contest.
However, the BJP is going to polls alone in the state. It also gains significance that two big leaders from different parties – one, former minister D K Aruna from Congress and the second, TRS floor leader in the outgoing Lok Sabha Jitender Reddy joined BJP a few days back. D K Aruna who lost Assembly elections on Congress ticket is contesting this time as BJP candidate from Mahabubnagar.
