PM Narendra Modi begins Indonesia visit by laying wreath at military cemetery

JAKARTA: On Wednesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his Indonesia visit by paying homage to martyrs of Indonesian independence struggle as he laid a wreath at the Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery here. The Prime Minister is expected to meet the President Joko Widodo today and discuss bilateral cooperation in a broad range of areas, including maritime, trade and investment. This is Modi’s first-ever official visit to Indonesia.

In a tweet, external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said: “Lest we forget..Paying homage to martyrs of Indonesian independence struggle! PM@narendramodi laying wreath at the Kalibata National Heroes’ Cemetery and signing the Visitor’s Book”

Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery was built in 1953 in South Jakarta. It was opened in November 1954 when the first burial took place.
