Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated APJ Abdul Kalam’s memorial in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu on the occasion of his second death anniversary.
The prime minister said “The memorial shows Kalam life and times in a remarkable manner. Kalam always reflected the simplicity, depth and calmness of Rameswaram and it has a vital place in our history and it is also known as a place so closely associated with abdul Kalam.
Narendra modi hoisted the national flag at the entrance of the memorial, built by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), with which Kalam was associated for several years as a key scientist. Later, PM interacted with the family members of Kalam.
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) had taken up the responsibility of constructing the memorial as a tribute to Abdul Kalam. They have invested around Rs 120 crore for the construction of the memorial in the period of nine months.
This structure is built in a 2.11 acre land and the bronze metal statue of Abdul Kalam, which was inaugurated in 2016, has been shifted and installed behind in the memorial.
