Cops told to wear dhoti kurta on duty at Kashi Vishwanath Temple

On the suggestion of the Prime Minister’s Office, Uttar Pradesh government has directed policemen deployed at the inner sanctum of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi to wear yellow kurtas and white dhotis while on duty instead of their official khaki uniform, sources said.

The PMO is believed to have made the suggestion with an aim to ensure a “sanskari” atmosphere inside the temple premises.

Varanasi is incidentally Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency.
