Former PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah today wrote a letter to CM KCR and urged him to take steps for the release of revolutionary writer and prominent civil rights activist Varavara Rao from Maharashtra jail. In his letter, He told the CM that the health condition of 80 year old Rao had deteriorated a lot and added that there was a need to take special steps to extend treatment to the civil rights activist. He said that the duty to protect rao had lied on the shoulders of all people of the state including the Chief Minister.
He told the Chief Minister, He already held discussions on the issue with the police officials of Maharashtra and added that the officials told him that the state government couldn’t do anything in the issue as the case was being dealt by special team of central government owned NIA. He told the Chief Minister that if he could spoke to the PM Narendra Modi and union Home minister Amit shah in the issue, Rao would be released from the jail.
