Pune Police: Maoists Were Planning To Target PM Modi

Yesterday Pune police claimed that Maoists were planning to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A letter found in the house of Delhi-resident Rona Wilson, arrested for alleged Maoist ‘links’ talks about the ultra mulling “Rajiv Gandhi-type incident” and suggested that Modi should be targeted during his road shows.

Teams of police arrested prominent human rights lawyer Surendra Gadling, noted Dalit activist-publisher Sudhir Dawale from Mumbai, tribal activist Mahesh Raut & Nagpur University English Professor Shoma Sen from Nagpur and activist Rona Wilson from New Delhi.

On Thursday, in their submission, the police said that they seized the letter from Wilson’s house in New Delhi in which ultras, among other things, mention about “the requirements of Rs 8 crore for an annual supply of M-4 carbines and four lakh rounds”.

All the arrested were produced before the Session court on Thursday and it remanded them in police custody till June 14.
