If Tsunami occurs everything gets wiped out. Similarly, when Rajinikanth’s movie is released all the old records are broken and a new record is created. Watching a Rajinikanth film is an experience in itself. He lights cigarettes with his pistol, catches grenades with his eyes closed, leaps to unfeasible heights and knocks out rooms full of bad guys in mere seconds. People cheer, clap, whistle and stomp their feet every time he comes on-screen. Indian film superstar, who has the kind of following most Hollywood actors can only dream about, has created a record when the teaser of his latest movie 2.0 is released on account of Ganesh Chathurthi.
The 1.31-minute long teaser has crossed over 1.47 million views in just 9 hours, with the social media going overboard on jokes and memes on the villain’s obsession with cell phones, Chitti the robot and Akshay Kumar’s blink-and-miss appearance in the teaser. Cine-lovers have been waiting for this glimpse of the Shankar-directed film for several months and this Ganesh festival, Bappa fulfilled everyone’s wishes. The teaser, which released on Thursday morning, introduced us to the principal characters of the film – Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti (both played by Rajinikanth) and their arch-rival, a bird-man like villain played by Akshay Kumar. The most expensive Indian movie ever, which marks Akshay’s debut in the Tamil film industry, is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot).
