Hindi film actor Salman Khan, convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, is ‘Qaidi Number 106’ at the Jodhpur Central Jail.

Salman Khan is lodged in the jail after being sentenced to five years imprisonment. Salman has spent the night at the jail and the sessions court is expected to hear his bail plea today. Interestingly, rape-accused and self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has also been lodged in the same jail.

After sentencing Salman to 5-year imprisonment, the Jodhpur court said the actor had killed the two animals for “enjoyment”.

The court then observed that Salman may be a “famous film actor” but the deed done by him can be imitated by common public. The Jodhpur court judge also said that since Salman is an actor, people look up to him and the way he killed an innocent deer is deplorable before sentencing the actor.

Later, the Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif commented that Salman was jailed because he is Muslim. Reacting to his comment, a Twitter user tweeted, “And Saif Ali Khan let off because he’s Hindu?”

It is interesting to note that, Salman’s colleague and actor Saif Ali Khan’s father and ex-India cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s was also earlier accused of killing a blackbuck in 2005.

In 2015, six people of Pataudi’s hunting party faced three years in jail. However, Pataudi’s name was erased from the list of the accused after his death in the year 2011.

Meanwhile, shares of Mandhana Retail Ventures, which is the licensee of Salman’s Being Human, tumbled 15% after the actor’s conviction.
