Sensex surges over 500 points a day after Modi’s win

At the stock markets, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange surged by almost 600 points in afternoon trade. The 30-share index was trading 584 points up at 39,396. It rallied over 400 points in opening trade today, a day after BJP-led NDA won an absolute majority in Lok Sabha elections.

The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 167 points to 11,824. At the foreign exchange market, the rupee appreciated by 21 paise to 69 rupees 81 paise against the dollar in opening trade.
