Swaziland king renames country ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’

The name of the Kingdom of Swaziland, which is Africa’s last absolute monarchy, has been changed. The kingdom’s King Mswati III is said to have changed the name of the country to the ‘Kingdom of eSwatini’.

King Mswati III made the announcement at the dual celebration that marked his 50th birthday and also the African nation’s 50 years of independence.

The Kingdom of eSwatini was a British protectorate for more than 60 years.
