Shubham Goel, the son of senior IAS officer Shashank Goel, was shot dead in Turkey, reported by a group of armed robbers, as he was on a vacation with his friend.
The two friends were confronted by a group of armed robbers who demanded money. While Sudhanshu (Shubham’s friend) reportedly handed over his money, Shubham refused, when he reportedly tried to resist and not give in to the demand immediately, he was attacked with a knife and also shot dead.
One of the family members told,” While one of his friends parted with some dollars, Shubham resisted and refused to give money. That made the gangsters angry, and they thrashed him and shot him dead.”
With the help from the Union external affairs ministry, the body was brought back to India and the rites were performed in Roorkee, Uttarakhand on Sunday, May 27 as the family hails from there.
Shubham Goel 24-year-old, a software engineer, was employed in the US as deputy manager with the Federal Bank of America in California and had come to India to attend the wedding of a relative. He planned a trip to Turkey in Istanbul, on his way back to California.
Shashank Goel, Shubham’s father, a 1990-batch IAS officer, is a principal secretary, labour, employment, factories and training. When his office was contacted at the Telangana secretariat, they said the officer had gone to Delhi but could not confirm the incident. However, the local media in Uttarakhand reported the incident.
