TRS clinches Mayor, Deputy Mayor posts as Vijaya Lakshmi, Srilatha Reddy won in GHMC, AIMIM supports

Gadwall Vijaya Lakshmi Corporator of Banjara Hills was elected Mayor and Mothe Srilatha Reddy Corporator of Tanaka was elected Deputy Mayor, both women of the TRS party, was elected the Mayor &  Deputy Mayor of GHMC elections held as per procedures.

A crucial meeting held to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor followed by the elected 149 members taking oath as Corporators of the respective divisions in the GHMC area. The corporators took the oath of office and secrecy in Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and English respectively.

The TRS got the support of its long time ally AIMIM members to elect the top posts of the Mayor and deputy mayor in the polls. Thus the much-awaited new body of the GHMC whose term expired on February 10 has begun a day later to start its business followed by the election of the Mayor and deputy mayor.

The Hyderabad Collector Swetha Mohanty as a presiding officer has declared Vijayalakshmi, daughter of TRS MP K Keshav Rao, and Srilatha Reddy as the winners of the polls. The polling was held by raising hands by the corporators and counting of the votes.

TRS corporators Baba Fasiyuddin and Sheshagiri supported Vijaya Lakshmi as the mayor candidate.

Interestingly Vijaya Reddy, another TRS corporator and daughter of late Janardhan Reddy, has boycotted the process as the TRS leadership denied the chance of mayoral post.

BJP Corporator Radha Dhiraj Reddy vied for the mayor post clinched by TRS corporator Vijay Lakshmi. BJP members staged protests by shouting slogans after MIM support to the TRS in the process.

Later the TRS corporators visited martyrs memorial at Gun Park near Assembly. 

They paid tributes along with minister T Srinivas Yadav, MLC Kavita MLA Balka Suman and other senior leaders at the site. 

Earlier they came in a separate bus from TRS headquarters Telangana Bhavan to GHMC office.

The TRS with has 56 seats and 32 ex-officio members won the top posts with MIM support while the magic figure was 97 to win the top post.

The BJP has 47 members, 2 ex officio, MIM 44 members, 10 ex-officio, the Congress 2 seats respectively in the GHMC.

Senior IAS officer Sandip Kumar Sultania has coordinated with Shwetha Mohanthy the members and officials for the oath taking and elections for Mayor and deputy mayor posts.
